Situated on over 5,600 acres of land in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, the Chestnut Mountain project contributes to increasing carbon sequestration rates of the surrounding forests, protecting the local drinking water supply and vast animal and plant biodiversity as well as providing a platform for education and research. The project will sequester approximately 480,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide over the first 20-year crediting period.

  • Reduces the amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere by providing protected trees and plants that can absorb carbon.
  • Protects the local water supply by acting as a natural filter that provides clean drinking water.
  • Provides a safe home for many wildlife and plant species by preventing the unnecessary destruction of the forests that house the plants and animals.
  • Acts as a research and education platform for local universities and community members. Provides enhanced opportunities for public recreation.

Founded in 1996 as the first private voluntary offset program in the world, ACR has twenty-five years of unparalleled experience in the development of rigorous, science-based carbon offset standards and methodologies as well as operational experience in carbon offset project registration, verification oversight and offset issuance.

There needs to be a future in which cities provide opportunities for all, with access to basic services, energy, housing, transportation and more. Chestnut Mountain works as a research and education platform for people within the community.

Climate change is a global challenge that affects everyone, everywhere. This project aids in carbon sequestration which helps fight climate change.

Sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and halting biodiversity loss. The Tri-City Forest project helps provide a safe habitat for a variety of plants and animals.
